BADASS BOO is the first-ever women-only cohort for writers who have screenwriting essentials* under their belt and want to go deeper! (*See exact enrollment criteria below re: experience level.)

BADASS BOO—the companion course to Lauren’s signature SCREENPLAYS BY BADASS WOMEN—is designed to, first and foremost, be a proud community of creative women. Within that community, we will come together weekly to swap creative insights, lean into support, and dive fully into our curiosity around how innovative screenplays take-shape and how a woman’s lived-experience assists her genius!

You will need a BASIC, practiced understanding of screenplay writing for BOO. Does this mean you need to be seasoned and prolific? No! In fact, advanced beginners are very welcome! See exact ENROLLMENT CRITERIA below.

For 5 weeks, BADASS BOO will offer a supportive, uproariously fun and explorative kaleidoscope of screenwriting study AND practice. Like it's sister course, SCREENPLAYS BY BADASS WOMEN, weekly sessions will toggle between three elements—script study, community exploration, writing—and will connect the dots between our lived experiences on Planet Patriarchy, the historically marginalized “female gaze,” and our vast creative reach as women writers.

But in BADASS BOO, we'll be free to push much more deeply into analysis of the script reading material in pursuit of our own gobsmacking potential—writing into our scenes weekly, refining as we go, and prioritizing our own output and creative joy.

Enrollment criteria

You must be a women-identifying writer who has already either 1). Taken SCREENPLAYS BY BADASS WOMEN, YOUR TEENAGE SELF WAS A F***ING STAR, or WRITING THE SUBVERSIVE COM with Lauren, OR 2). Have completed an intro screenwriting course elsewhere, OR 3). Have completed a script (short, pilot, or feature) on your own, however rough the draft.

Writers should feel free to join BADASS BOO with an in-progress script, a draft, OR merely the seed concept for an eventual idea.

1:1 support

The class price reflects Lauren’s commitment to 1:1 support, and each student will meet at least twice with Lauren 1:1 during the 5 weeks, to get plenty of hands-on guidance as they write and shape their ideas. Additionally, Lauren is available for Zoom “office hours” ongoingly across all 5-weeks, to help you through any struggles, troubleshoot, and buoy confidence. Roll up your sleeves, sit your ass in that chair, and become a goddamn legend already.

Course expectations

We’ll read + watch 1 women-helmed screenplay every week as “take-home work” and discuss together, WHILE you develop your own original script idea (or use the class to continue one you already started). Every writer will bring a “share” into class from their script-in-progress weekly.

Testimonials

“Lauren Veloski is like a scriptwriting oracle. I feel ready to make my own thing, but more importantly, I feel like I have the kind of permission I was seeking to carve a spot for myself. Lauren is a cheerleader, a warrior, a sage."
—Lindsay Hunter, Author of "HOT SPRINGS DRIVE"

"I cannot say enough positive things about Lauren as a teacher. I loved the class material, what others wrote in class, and the whole vibe. I am so sad it's over!"
—Anna Toonk, Host of "HOW TO BE HUMAN" podcast

"Lauren is pure gold! Full of industry intel combined with a super-passionate heart
for the craft and for women’s voices.”
—Lisa Lister, Author of “SELF SOURCE-ERY”

“Lauren is the best screenwriting teacher I’ve ever had. No, seriously. She is able to keenly identify what kind of writer brain you have and provide tangible solutions to your creative blocks that go way beyond canned advice and common knowledge. Remember your favorite teacher from school who made you feel seen and met you where you were at and knew exactly what you needed to hear? That’s her.”
—Aliza Small, writer & comedian

“I want everyone who feels like they have a story trapped inside them to take a class with Lauren, regardless of whether that's a screenplay or a novel or a short story. This class felt like the safest place ever to explore my creativity and be vulnerable in sharing my ideas, and that's such an incredible gift for a writer.”
—Kristina Johnson

“There is no intimidation, there is no stupid idea. Lauren is a true Sensei.”
—Donna Booher, writer

About the Instructor

Lauren Veloski is a screenwriter, comedy writer, creative coach, and founder of THAT'S BANANAS. Her first feature script, the indie comedy “SORRY, THANKS,” was praised by Lena Dunham for writing “as seamless as any studio rom-com—if studio rom-coms had astute, nuanced dialogue.” An “unromantic comedy” about casual douchebaggery, “SORRY, THANKS” world-premiered at SXSW, played 15 fests internationally, and sold to IFC/Sundance. After 15 years as the “story brain in the room” on countless television and film projects, Lauren launched THAT'S BANANAS in 2022 to do what she most loves: work one-on-one with writers at all levels, helping them come fully into their badassery and power on the page.
