Got an idea for your book series? Create an easy outline in this 1.5 hour workshop to map out your stories and cut down any overwhelm.

Maybe you've got a great concept for a series. Or you've written Book 1 and know it's ready for a sequel. Perhaps you've even written a story that you think would work better broken down into a series instead.

Book series can be really fun to write, and many loyal readers will be thrilled to continue following your characters and unique world-building in sequels. But planning a series can be tough. Especially when you struggle with outlines and big-picture thinking.

In this workshop, we're going to plan your series with a simple step-by-step outline. First, learn which type of series you're going to write (there are three!). Then we'll break down how to create each one, exploring how to extend your protagonist's journey and central conflict across each story—whether you've got two books or twelve!

With an editable PDF planner, writers will get a dedicated space to fill out their story outline in real time. After, we'll dive into Q&A where you can ask a professional developmental editor any plot or character questions that pop up. This is a low-pressure environment to brainstorm and test new ideas.

Writers only need to bring an idea for their book series to this workshop with a basic idea of their protagonist/s and central conflict. If you don't have a book series in mind just yet, that's okay. Just bring a basic idea and we'll build it out together.

What you will learn

  • The three types of book series (static, interconnected, and serial)

  • How to outline each type of book series

  • The best way to switch protagonists from book to book (à la Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series)

  • How to build your central conflict in a steady, measured way

  • Examples from popular book series and a wide range of genres (ie. Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot series and Sarah J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses series)

  • Plus: a free novel series outline workbook 📚

Workshop Takeaway

By the end of this workshop, you'll leave with a basic outline of your book series and feel confident with exactly where each book will start and end. Depending on whether you're more of a plotter or a pants-er, writers can either expand on their outlines after the class or jump right into writing their stories. With the take-home workbook everyone will receive, writers can edit, revise, and build upon their outlines as needed and at their own pace.

If you can't attend this class live, it will be recorded! Students will receive a recording the day after the class, and it will be available for 30 days.
