We live in a world that tells us the only way to make progress is to push through. But what if your body—and your creativity—were asking for something else?
This workshop introduces a new approach to your writing life: one rooted in cycles, softness, and seasonal rhythms. By mapping the creative process onto the phases of the menstrual cycle (and their seasonal counterparts), we’ll explore how your writing energy ebbs and flows—and how to honor that rather than resist it.
Whether you menstruate, used to, don’t, or never have, this workshop will help you notice your own patterns, decode your energy shifts, and gently realign your writing with what you need most.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll walk away with:
A breakdown of the four creative phases — and how to use them
Tools to track your energy, mood, and focus
Writing prompts to unlock your flow
A personalized creative plan built around your current season
Permission to rest, reset, and revise without guilt
A deeper sense of trust in your body, voice, and timing
What Writers Are Saying
I am blown away by this and that it never occurred to me to align my writing with my cycle or the natural cycles of the universe. I also really enjoyed writing my Permission Slip poem and sharing it with the group; I felt that it brought me into the circle and the presentation space.
I had never heard about bodily cycles being able to affect our writing. After doing the prompts, I realized that it was something I've gone through without understanding why I lacked the energy to work on my draft.
So helpful to hear about your lived experience. Even those of us who are post-menopausal can look back and see how menstrual cycles affected us in the past and likely the moon still holds some sway.
I loved the invitation to reflection and the prompt to give ourselves permission, plan for the future.
What We’ll Explore Together
Through teaching and guided reflection, we’ll dive into:
Why working with your body leads to deeper creative trust
The 4 phases of the cycle and their creative superpowers
How to track your energy and adapt your process with compassion
What sustainable creativity actually looks like (hint: not constant output)
