In this course, you'll get a taste of my 7-week Writing With Confidence workshop, created for artists ready to step into their identity as a writer. This is an affirmation-based workshop that centers curiosity over critique.
Together we'll do generative writing prompts, reflect on what unhelpful narratives about being a writer are holding us back, and get a chance to hang out with kind, inspiring, and supportive artistic community. I'll also provide time for an in-depth Q&A where you can ask me anything about my career, practices, and hot takes on writing as an industry. This course is especially helpful for recovering (or active) perfectionists, those who have academic trauma, or people who relate to Hannah Horvath when she went to the Iowa Writers Workshop!
Workshop takeaways
Generative writing prompts
Reflection on obstacles holding them back from the writer they want to be
Participation in an in-depth Q&A
Confidence! Curiosity! Community!

About the Instructor
Haley Jakobson (she/her) is an author and playwright living in Brooklyn, NY. In her work she explores queerness, girlhood, brains, and bodies. Haley’s debut novel OLD ENOUGH is a New York Times Editor’s Choice, a Lambda Literary Award finalist for best bisexual fiction, and is described by Vogue as being “full of winsome bisexual chaos.” Her sophomore novel, CAVEGIRL, is forthcoming from Penguin Random House x Dutton Books.
When she isn’t writing (on the subway) or eating (bodega sandwiches), Haley has the privilege of teaching her Writing With Confidence Workshop, connecting writers across the globe. Haley is represented by Ayla Zuraw-Friedland at Frances Goldin Literary Agency.
